As of January 1, 2005, the Social Democratic Party of Ukraine (United) numbers 407028 party members. 26542 people joined the party last year. The Crimean republican organization admitted 4671 members, the Dnipropetrovsk oblast organization – 3804 members, the Zaporizhzhia oblast organization – 2918 members, the Mykolaiiv oblast organization – 2704 members. At the same time, 4165 members left the ranks of the Lviv oblast organization, 1676 members left the ranks of the Chernivtsi oblast organization, 962 members left the ranks of the Cherkasy oblast organization.

The Zakarpattia oblast organization numbering 40540 party members or 9.9% of the overall number of party members, the Kharkiv oblast organization numbering 34121 party members (8.4%) and the Zaporizhzhia oblast organization numbering 30446 party members (7.5%) are the largest in number. The Sevastopol city organization (5257 party members or 1.3%), the Ivano-Frankivsk and Volyn oblast organizations numbering 5355 (1.3%) and 5977 (1.5%) respectively are the smallest in number.

An average of 82 people joined the party every month. The speediest pace was registered at the Crimean republican organization (389 people), the Dnipropetrovsk oblast organization (317 people), Zaporizhzhia oblast organization (243 people) and Mykolaiiv oblast organization (225 people).

At the same time, the ranks of the Ivano-Frankivsk oblast organization, Kyiv, Kirovohrad, Lviv, Ternopil, Cherkasy, Chernivtsi oblast party organizations shrank.

211 188 members of the SDPU(U) or 51.9% of the overall number of party members are women. In 2004 23 627 women joined the party, which is 52.1% of the newly admitted party members. The largest number of female members is registered at the Sevastopol city organization (64.7 % of the overall number of the organization’s members), Dnipropetrovsk (60.1%) and Donetsk (59.9%) oblast party organizations. The smallest number of female members is registered at the Kyiv city organization (38.1%), Ivano-Frankivsk (38.1%) and Lviv (40.0 %) oblast organizations.

55659 or 13.7% of party members are employed in the agricultural sector, 19621 or 4.8% - in the light industry, 12413 or 3.0% - in the heavy industry, 9971 members or 2.4% work at bodies of power and bodies of local government, 174128 or 42.8% are employed in other industries. 33 148 members (8.1%) are students and 39 986 members (9.8%) - pensioners.

There are 23 national deputies, 5 deputies of the Supreme Council of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, 135 deputies of oblast councils, 495 deputies of city councils, 2361 deputies of rayon councils and 213 deputies of district councils, 1131 deputies of town councils and 6001 deputies of village councils among party members. 3 of them chair oblast councils, 42 – rayon and district councils, 40 party members are mayors of cities of oblast importance or their deputies, 29 party members are mayors of towns of rayon importance, 98 are town mayors, 1086 are village mayors.

There are 3 Heroes of Ukraine, 42 Heroes of the Soviet Union, 14 Heroes of Socialist Labor among party members. 12080 party members have been awarded with orders of Ukraine and other states, 20 members are laureates of state prizes, 624 hold titles of honor.

30.7% of party embers are young people under 30, 25.6 % age between 31 and 40, 22,6% age between 41 and 50, 15.0% age between 51 and 60, 6.7% are over 60. The average age of party members is 40.

18 773 members left the ranks of the SDPU(U) during the reported period. 5687 of them were expelled from the party, 755 died, 12119 people left the party for other reasons. Besides, 212 changed their membership cards for those of other regional party organizations. The network of party organizations and primary organizations continued developing. Nowadays the SDPU(U) has 778 rayon and city party organizations, 20800 primary organizations have been formed and registered. The Crimean republican, all the oblast organizations, Kyiv and Sevastopol city party organization have telephonized offices, e-mail addresses. The Zakarpattia, Luhansk and Chernivtsi oblast organizations and the Kyiv city organization have their pages on the Internet.
